Has anyone been following D&D 4e stuff?

Except for a little bit at the beginning, I haven't been following D&D 4e discussion at all - I want to see something more substantial, more nuts and bolts before doing so...but I'm curious if any of the rest of you have, and if so what you think so far?

I've kept my head buried in the sand about it. The snips I saw early on gave me the impression that D&D is becoming more like video games, for better or worse.

I am not yet certain if I'm going to go out and buy all the 4E stuff, I'll want to see bigger pieces of it than the teasers. I am pretty certain, though, that I'm not going to be interested in the subscription content. It's a model everything is going to these days, where you rent information rather than owning it in the form of books or discs.

Renting a movie I may never watch again is fine, but I've always loved my RPG books and magazines, I like *owning* them. Who knows, maybe I'll actually regress to using AD&D 1st Edition. Of course, a d20srd Core-only game has a certain appeal as well, in its simplicity and Open community support.

That being said, if anyone gets better than a glimpse of things to come, I want to hear more about it.

Pretty much the same thing for me, curiosity in the beginning followed by general ambivalance toward it.

Think I told you they had a 'Preview' book for 4th ed.... Only $20!! For a preview!! Did not even look at it, charging for a preview is enough to turn me off.

I've stopped buying books since the announcement, and I look at all the books on my shelves 2nd ed, 3rd and 3.5 and think what is the point of this new edition? I wonder if they have seen a dramatic decrease in book sales since 4th ed was announced?

I am mildly interested in the online gaming tools. I liked my DM tools but the support they gave it was squat and then turned it over to Code Monkey who wanted to charge a fortune to update to 3.5 and get all the data from the extra books. PCgen was much better before they got shut down, and it was free. I am interested in seeing a game played online with the tools provided and if it can really work.
