Here is a modest proposal. Please feel free to comment as you like, I'd like to get some discussion going.
After running my one-shot AD&D 1E game, I got to thinking about the potential problem of 3.5 / Pathfinder vs 4E as far as future direction for the gaming we do.
I'm not sure it has to be a problem. My 1E one-off was done because no one else was willing to run that week. I think that although having an ongoing round-robin DM campaign, like Serpent's Tale, is a good thing to have, I think that if someone wants to run something, they should do it.
By which I mean, if I don't feel like writing an adventure for 3.5 or 4E, and feel like, 1E or even Traveller, I could propose it. It can be a one-shot for fun, or it could be a pilot for a mini-series or an ongoing but occasional campaign. Not everyone needs to show up if it isn't their cup of tea.
Basically, if I propose a Traveller pilot and no one else has something they want to run, why not just go with it? Everyone could technically have their own personal campaign, like Shrouded Isle, if they wanted. We'd have slower advancement with ongoing campaigns, but I think it'd help keep burnout at bay.
What's everyone think? Strong objections?
Chris
